The artist

Chen Zhuo (陈灼), born in 1968 in Leizhou (Guangdong), the son of a painter, graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of South China Normal University (1990) and pursued postgraduate studies in the oil painting department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (2000). An oil painter celebrated for his female figures in Rembrandtesque chiaroscuro — “Western technique as the bone, Eastern poetry as the soul” — distinguished at the 15th Guangdong provincial exhibition and shown in Hong Kong in 2018, he works between his two studios in Canton and Leizhou.

His inks — fish, crabs, lotus — are his literati garden: he signs them “Longdou” (龙斗), after the name of his native village.

The works presented here were acquired directly from the artist at the Victory Hotel on Shamian Island — Canton's former foreign concession — in January 2026. Invoice signed and sealed by the artist's hand, kept by the gallery.
